Introduction

As a group of UNC-CH college students we have come together this Spring in order to create a blog for our English 102 class. Although we come from different parts of the country with different plans for the future, we realized we have a common interest in the world of science. This common interest will help us to bring the blog together in a way that will create a smooth connection between each of our posts. And through our current knowledge, as well as that which we are bound to acquire, we hope to inform you (our reader) of the mind bottling issues currently at topic. In every English class we have been in, a well structured essay format has been pounded in our brains, but, with this assignment we are now given the chance to let loose and be a bit informal while remaining informative.

None of us live in a problem free world (feel free to let us know if you do). The struggles some people face today can seem unbearable and at many times difficult to relate to because many times the information is not properly projected. That is why we are combining issues of natural science, social science, and humanities in a way that better explains the occurrence and causation of injuries, body distortion, and mental illnesses. Such problems are world wide and are difficult to overcome, especially when around those who do not truly understand the psychological aspects of the improvement process. Each of us will contribute to our blog by focusing on similar issues of the body while maintaining our own voice, character, and opinion of the topic. This way, you will read different views and concur to which one suits you best.

Our blog is directed towards any readers who have dealt with similar issues and those who know someone experiencing them, but specifically the blog should attract teens and college students. That being said, in many situations people who do not know how to deal with someone who is experiencing injuries and body distortion problems, can try and help but as a result make the situation worse. Our blog will inform you on the causes of such body issues and hopefully provide insightful tips on how to help. Our main goal is to create a blog that can be easily understood but still have a high level of sophistication in hopes of maintaining some of the structural writing we’ve been taught. We hope to make the blog interesting and entertaining to our readers. If you have been looking for an informative blog that consumes your interest and is easy to understand, congratulations, you’ve found it!

About the Authors:

Ceaira Mckoy.
My name is Ceaira Mckoy. I was born and raised in Lumberton, NC. I wish I could say I was from some place cool like Florida, New York, or New Jersey, but I’m a small town Carolina girl. Since seventh grade I’ve wanted to be a doctor. Then as I got older and did more research on careers I decided that I want to become a Nurse Anesthetist, so I am studying nursing at UNC-Chapel Hill. I love children, I have a passion for dance, cheer-leading, and gymnastics, and who doesn’t like fashion? My favorite color is purple and I love leopard print!

Kate Medynskaya.
An only child of a Russian family, I was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina just down the street from my aunt, uncle and two cousins. Coming from Russia, the biggest obstacle I faced was the language barrier. But after coming to US I quickly picked up the language and am now able to talk without an accent. I currently attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I am studying chemistry and biology in hopes of achieving a pharmacy major. Most days, after I finish with classes I have practice for the UNC Club Tennis team. I have been playing tennis since I was nine years old, along with other sports such as gymnastics, dance, and karate. In my free time, I like to draw with just about any medium.

Sarah Scott.
I was born and raised in Yorktown Heights, New York and am now currently attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am interested in learning about the science of how people interact with each other and am thinking of a major in political science. I like to see how different people think and act in certain situations and circumstances. I am a relaxed writer and like to appeal to many different groups to get my ideas out there. I keep the jargon to a minimum so many different people can understand the concept of my writing. I would like to be conveyed as a credible author, showing sources and giving credit will allow me to do this.

Leslie Smith.
I was born and raised in Red Oak, a small town in eastern North Carolina. I now attend The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with hopes of studying exercise and sport science. As a first year student, I strive to do my best in all of my endeavors so that I will be better prepared for the rest of my college experience. I am a carefree individual who can find enjoyment out of anything. I love laughing, being around people, and just about any reality television series.

Elizabeth Fedele.
I hail from North Wales, Pennsylvania, which is a suburb outside of Philadelphia. I play field hockey here at the University of North Carolina, and I am also an Exercise and Sports Science Major. With only one older sibling, I am the youngest. I don’t take myself too seriously, and I think my writing style conveys that.
